U3A Alexandra: Travel Series - Session 2 Trekking in Nepal

Topic: Trekking in Nepal
At the end of November 2006, Alan and his brother-in-law Jim went trekking in Nepal. Though they’d had plenty of experience of tramping and climbing in the mountains and Jim had travelled a lot, the fulness of the experience took them by surprise.
During those 10 days Alan wrote a journal and poems reflecting on this. In the talk he considers how most of the people he knows who have been on ‘tourist type’ trips seem not to be too personally involved in what could be a more deeply rewarding occasion. The towns, the people and the trek itself gave him dark and bright moments, and these are what he concentrates on.
