Mark Mawhinney - Risk Reduction Advisor Fire and Emergency New Zealand
Mark is a wild fire management specialist with a background in wildfire management and working with communities to reduce the impacts of wildfire.
Marty Jillings - Senior Advisor Community Readiness and Recovery
Structure fire specialist/senior fire investigator. Working with communities to reduce the likelihood and consequences of house fires.
They will talk about:
- Wildfire and its impacts in the rural/urban interface. How fires spread to communities and ways that communities can reduce this impact.
- Principles of “Fire Smart” and how this can be applied to communities. While much of the design of Fire Smart originated overseas its application in New Zealand is very relevant.
- Home fire safety and what the risks are to your home: fire science - the spread of fire in the home. Lithium iron batteries, electric blankets and cooking fires.
