NZSL Beginner (Units 1 & 2) 2 - 3pm - Term 3

ONLINE sessions 1hr once a week, for 8 weeks
Learners will need to complete 6/8 session to receive the Certificate for Beginner Units 1 and 2

Unit 1: Meeting and Greeting

Learners will:

• Exchange greetings and introductions.
• Use basic conversational signs.
• Understand and follow simple classroom instructions.
• Learn the importance of facial expressions in NZSL communication.
• Use appropriate eye contact before signing.
• Learn numbers 1–10.
• Use the NZSL fingerspelling alphabet to spell their name and simple words.
• Ask for repetition and clarification when needed.

Unit 2: Our Class

Learners will:

• Identify people and objects within the learning environment.
• Sign the languages they speak or are learning.
• Give and follow simple instructions and action commands.
• Ask for clarification, correction and confirmation.
• Ask and describe where objects are located.
• Use appropriate phrases for common classroom situations.
• Use numbers 0–20 and simple time-related phrases.
• Build confidence participating in simple signed conversations.
