With the cost of living continuing to impact many people across Central Otago, there's real value in rediscovering the free, nourishing kai growing all around us.
This spring, our Shared Garden Forage & Harvest workshop invites our community to learn, connect, and build confidence in recognising and using seasonal edible plants.
Facilitator: Loran Verpillot
Introducing the Facilitator - Loran is a qualified medical herbalist and educator with over eight years of experience leading edible weed and foraging workshops, introducing people to the delicious and nutritious world of wild plants. Based in Queensberry, she grows many of the herbs she uses in her workshops and herbal practice, combining practical experience with a passion for sustainable living. A keen gardener and enthusiastic forager, Loran loves helping people discover the abundance of useful plants growing around them.
Through engaging, hands-on workshops, she shares practical knowledge about identifying, harvesting, and using edible and medicinal plants, encouraging a deeper appreciation of the natural world.
The Workshop
Join medical herbalist Loran to discover common edible weeds and turn them into a delicious wild pesto! In this session, you’ll learn how to identify common edible weeds often found in gardens and use them to create a vibrant wild pesto. While the plants will be provided from Loran’s own garden, this workshop is a perfect starting point for those curious about incorporating edible weeds into their meals. Whether you’re new to the world of edible plants or looking to expand your knowledge, this workshop will inspire you to see weeds in a whole new light!
