ESOL Tutor - Wānaka RegionEnglish for Speakers of Other Languages

Location: Upper Clutha, Wānaka
Organisation: Central Otago REAP
Position Type: Fixed-Term, Part-Time

Are you passionate about empowering new migrants and residents in the Upper Clutha Wānaka region to build confidence in English language skills? Central Otago REAP is seeking a ESOL Tutor to support learners in developing Conversational and Foundation English language.

About the Role:

As an ESOL Tutor, you will:

  • Support new migrants and local residents to develop their English language skills for everyday life and community connection.
  • Deliver engaging, learner-centred sessions that encourage participation and build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Create welcoming and inclusive learning environments that nurture learning and community connection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver courses focused on:
    • Conversational English for everyday situations
    • Foundation literacy skills for work, study, and community participation
    • Understanding Kiwi slang and local expressions
    • Engaging in community events and building local connections
  • Assess learner needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Encourage participation through practical activities and community-based learning.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to enhance learning outcomes.

About You:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience teaching English as a Second Language or adult education.
  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and empathy for diverse learners.
  • Is adaptable, patient, and passionate about community learning.
  • Holds relevant qualifications in TESOL, Adult Education, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Understands the unique needs of learners in community settings, particularly in rural regions like Upper Clutha.
