Derek is the Otago Emergency Management representative for Central Otago and based in Alexandra, focusing on Community Awareness and Preparation.
Preparation for all manner of emergencies and unexpected events is not actually a one-off exercise. Reserve stocks of food and water get depleted and forgotten, headlamps and batteries get lost or misplaced. What is reasonable for people to actually have?
· How important is it to know our neighbours, anyway?
· Will the Alpine Fault ever rupture again?
· Why has Central Otago not had a declared State of Local Emergency for over 25 years…?
Some of these questions can be touched on, discussed, and hopefully answered in this session.
