The Shared Garden

A welcoming, community garden programme where we share knowledge, build wellbeing, and connect through the seasons.

With guidance from the Maramataka Calendar (planting by the moon cycle).

Mondays 5.00 - 6.00pm and Fridays 9.00 - 11.00am

Please Note: No session Friday 6 Feb (Waitangi Day) OR Monday 23 March (Otago Anniversary Day)


Weekly Programme Overview 

-this will be driven by the garden and lunar calendar and is just a guide that will develop over the season.

WEEK 1:

Mon 19 Jan  Whakawhanaungatanga, intro to Maramataka, checking out the garden and harvesting the potatoes

Fri 23 Jan Whakawhanaungatanga, intro to Maramataka, Garden walk, Continue Harvest, Make some tomato sauce (Lucy's secret recipe). Soil check (add some compost and get soil ready to sow big feeder plants that produce above ground)

Weekly Focus - Connect, harvest, make, soil, and replanting.


WEEK 2: 

Mon 26 Jan Aboveground crop sowing/planting big feeders (dwarf beans, lettuce, spinach, silverbeet, leeks, kale, spring onion )and soil care  - Continue harvesting and sharing

Fri 30 Jan Composting, Liquid Feed today - Continue harvesting and sharing

Weekly Focus - Preparation (Cultivating) & readiness (New Moon) Liquid Feed on Friday


WEEK 3:

Mon 2 Feb  Cultivate - Harvest and share 

Fri 6 Feb  – No session Waitangi Day (good day to apply liquid feed)

WEEK 4:

Mon 9 Feb Put in root crops and pruning- Harvest and share 

Fri 13 Feb Put in root crops and pruning - Harvest and share

WEEK 5:

Mon 16 Feb Dig and Cultivate - liquid feed - Harvest and share 

Fri 20 Feb Dig and Cultivate  - Harvest and share kai. Clean up the tunnel house and our rows in the big glass house, weeding and making Calendula oil demo.

Weekly Focus - Harvest Share and Calendula oil making for balms and creams.


WEEK 6:

Mon 23 Feb  Aboveground crop sowing and soil care  - Continue harvesting and sharing

Fri 27 Feb Aboveground crop sowing and soil care  - Continue harvesting and sharing

Mon 2 Mar Cultivate only and liquid feed - Continue harvesting and sharing

Fri 6 Mar Cultivate only - Continue harvesting and sharing
