Interview Ready - Demystifying the Interview Process - Wānaka
Get to know what interviewers are really looking for
Tutors: Cherilyn Walthew & Sarah Millwater
The presentation is designed for a broad range of people, including those who are:
- applying for jobs, promotions, scholarships, apprenticeships and further education
What participants should take away
By the end of the presentation, participants should have a clearer understanding of:
• what interviewers are generally looking for;
• how to prepare for the particular role, opportunity or organisation;
• how to identify and communicate relevant experience and transferable skills;
• how to give clear, relevant examples without sounding over-rehearsed;
• how to manage nerves and present themselves professionally while still being themselves;
• what useful questions they can ask; and
• how to reflect on the interview and use feedback constructively.
The presentation will be practical, straightforward and grounded in what actually happens on the other side of
the interview table. It will avoid jargon and formulaic advice, and it will acknowledge that there is no single
“interview personality” people need to adopt to succeed.
The aim is for participants to leave with useful ideas they can put into practice, rather than a long list of rules.
Realistic examples will be used to make the advice easier to understand and apply.
Participants will not be put on the spot or required to take part in role-play. Questions and discussion will be
encouraged, but people will only share what they are comfortable sharing.
