| Geography:
Ranfurly is a small rural service township, based on the
Maniototo Plain. The population of the town is 800, drawing
from a large rural population around 1800. Always sharply
defined, the seasons of the Maniototo feature hot dry summers,
beautiful autumn colours and cold, dry winters that herald
a crisp clear spring. Many of the towns buildings were constructed
in the 1950's in the simple modernist Art Deco style, which
is appreciated today with Rural Art Deco, a refurbishment
of the old buildings and Festival held every February. Although
isolated, the Maniototo has a warm community spirit and numerous
summer and winter activities including: curling, fishing,
mountain biking, forest walks, the Central Otago Rail Trail
and ice skating.
