Geography

The Tuapeka District has a population of 1800 with 474 in the main centre of Lawrence. The main industries in the area are sheep and beef farming and forestry. Tourism in the area centres on the historical gold rush era at Gabriel's Gully. One secondary area school and two primary schools service the area.
