Geography

This area is bounded by the Kopuwai Range Dunstan Mountains and the Crawford Hills. The Alexandra township is situated at the confluence of the Clutha and the Manuherikia Rivers.

The main economic base is horticulture and viticulture and the surrounding agriculture industry. The local hospital is situated at Clyde which also has a primary school.

Alexandra has 3 primary schools, a secondary with an attached boarding hostel.   Alexandra is generally seen as the service centre for Government agencies. The region is known for its gold mining history..
